Long before we had founded Futbol Funatics in 2003, we had always dreamed of establishing our very own football school—one in which we could provide players a football experience that would impact their lives in the same way ours did for us.
As graduates of De La Salle University in Manila and as former members of the University’s varsity team, we felt that football had played a big part in teaching us values that have been essential in countless endeavors, both education and career- wise. With our desire to provide a meaningful football encounter for kids, we were determined to channel our love for football into becoming educators of the sport. We set out to develop a football program that was fun and dynamic, yet offered proper instruction of technique and tactics. We designed it as such to teach the program in an age-appropriate manner, while simultaneously catering to children of different characteristics and skill levels. Moreover, we were determined to create a culture that would teach players to value the process and not just the results, showing them how to enjoy the beautiful game while simultaneously building their character and helping them improve each time they step onto the field. It was with this vision that Futbol Funatics was born.
We launched the first Futbol Funatics camp in September of 2003 at Cuenca Park, Ayala Alabang with only 8 students, and a month later we opened a camp in Tahanan Village Park- Paranaque. Word started to spread about the quality and approach of our training, and we were eventually offered opportunities to bring our program to several schools that did not have an in-house football program. By 2005, we had branched out to the Pasig area and opened a camp at Meralco Center-Pasig, at this point pursuing the football school full-time and engaging in numerous coaching workshops here and abroad to further our knowledge in the sport. Simultaneously, we supplemented our bachelor’s degrees by pursuing the field of education through the Teachers’ Certificate Program (TCP), becoming board passers and licensed professional teachers by 2006. We felt that apart from attending coaching workshops specifically for football, it was important to also be knowledgeable teachers, understanding child psychology and appropriate motivational techniques and tools used for children of all ages so that we could train our coaching staff to approach their coaching endeavors with these considerations in mind. For the type of football program we had created, we knew our credibility as coaches would not rest solely on our football background but would also be dependent on our ability to effectively pass on our knowledge to the next generation of footballers.
Today, Futbol Funatics offers year-round programs for children of all skill levels in six major locations in Metro Manila– Paranaque, Alabang, BGC, Makati, Cavite and Pasig. We currently have over 600 kids in our program from the ages of 3 to 19 years old. For players bearing an advanced skill level, they are able to avail of our FFAST Program —Futbol Funatics’ Advanced Supplementary Training Program– an advanced training program developed back in 2010 catering specifically to the physical, psychological and mental needs of advanced players. Through the FFAST program, their technical and tactical knowledge of the game is taken to another level. The FFAST program in currently running in BGC and in Cebu City. In 2012, we launched FICEP—Futbol Funatics’ Immersion and Cultural Exchange Program– a summer football immersion program in Spain where players get to engage in football training under UEFA-A Licensed Spanish coaches, participate in matches with Spanish youth clubs and be provided a multitude of experiences to learn about the Spanish culture and way of life. In 2014, Futbol Funatics took on the role to spearhead yet another youth football program, Forza FC, a selection team program for U7 up to U19 players competing in the United Football League-Youth Div. (UFL), now known as the Youth Football League (YFL).
